The History of The Panabox
So how did the “PANABOX” come into being?
On a dark & stormy night in late 2018 while searching for a Panasonic RR-DR60 on the internet, I came across a device that looked a lot like the world famous voice recorder I was after…but slightly different. It took me a moment to realize I was staring at an image of a Panasonic AM/FM radio instead of a voice recorder. The letters “AM/FM” were printed above the display screen (instead of “IC RECORDER”), the two push buttons were not painted red & the display screen contained slightly different graphics than I was used to seeeing. It was a fascinating discovery!
The radio staring back at me was likely built around the same time as the DR60 because both were built from many of the same parts. It made me think; if the DR60 is the king of EVP voice recorders, could this radio be converted into the king of spirit radios? I tracked down four units & checked their inner electronics to see if there was an easy way to convert them into ghost boxes. It wasn’t long before I realized I was out of my depth. This was not going to be an easy hack like the “snip the green wire procedure” for the Jensen SAB-55 radio. It was going to require a highly qualified technician to make the necessary modifications.
I sent one of each of my four radios to four different “hackers” to see if any could convert theirs into a spirit box…a month later I received word that one had succeeded. It was sent back to me so I could test it & I later confirmed it had been successfully hacked into a working spirit radio. It was now capable of continuously sweeping through the am radio band while the sweep rate was user controlled. I was overjoyed! This initial prototype was then sent to Steve Huff of Huff Paranormal for further testing & gave it the thumbs up. He named the device “Panabox” & has since posted many videos of himself working with a Panabox on his social media page. One of Steve’s videos is displayed to the left of this post & available for your viewing pleasure. I wish to thank Steve for his assistance and expertise with this project.
